PDFs

Upload a 10-K, board deck, research note, or transcript and the agent can quote passages with page-level citations, extract tables into an Excel workbook, summarize sections, and compare several PDFs at once.

Upload a PDF

Drag the PDF onto the chat or the Files page, or click Upload in Files. Long files need no special handling. PDF portfolios (PDFs with embedded files) are unpacked into a folder next to the original.

For SEC filings you don’t need to upload anything: ask for the filing by company and form type (“the latest 10-Q for Acme”) and the agent pulls it. See SEC filings below.

Ask questions with citations

Ask anything you’d ask an analyst:

  • “Summarize the risk factors section.”
  • “What did management say about gross margin on the call?”
  • “Compare the segment guidance in this 10-Q to the prior quarter.”

The agent answers with numbered citations that include the page. Hover over a citation to see the quoted passage, and click it to open the PDF at that page with the passage highlighted.

Ask about a passage

Open the PDF, select some text, and click Ask Compound. The passage and its page number are quoted into the chat so you can ask about exactly that text.

The PDF viewer lets you zoom to Page Width, Page Fit, or 50—400%. You can’t edit a PDF yourself in Compound. Ask the agent to change it (it can add pages, text, and images), or to turn its content into a Word document or workbook.

Extract tables to a workbook

Ask the agent to pull tables out:

  • “Pull the segment revenue table on page 47 into an Excel sheet.”
  • “Extract every table from the financial statements into one workbook.”

The agent creates a workbook (or adds to an existing one) with the headers, totals, and footnoted values, and cites the page each figure came from.

Compare several PDFs

Upload two or three PDFs and ask across them: “Compare the MD&A in this quarter’s 10-Q against last quarter’s and flag any meaningful tone changes.” Citations show which file and page each passage came from.

SEC filings

When the Read company filings and financials capability is on (the default; see Agents and projects), the agent can read SEC filings such as 10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks, proxy statements, and S-1s, as well as earnings call transcripts, without any upload. Filings are cited the same way as uploaded PDFs. A new filing can take up to a day to become available.

You can also browse a company’s filings on the Documents tab of its profile in Company Universe.
