Documents (Word)

Última atualização 26 de maio de 2026

Compound can draft, edit, and review Word documents alongside your chat. The agent can write new sections from scratch, restructure existing prose, apply heading styles, build tables, and pull figures from a workbook in the same Drive. Every edit is versioned.

Start a document

You have two paths:

  • Generate from a prompt. Ask the agent to write the document. “Draft a one-page memo on Acme’s Q3 results based on the attached transcript and 10-Q.”
  • Edit an existing file. Upload a Word document and ask for changes. “Tighten the executive summary to half its length and add a paragraph on the segment guidance.” Compound accepts .docx (modern) and .doc (legacy) on upload; downloads are produced as .docx.

In both cases the document opens as a file in the chat. You can keep iterating in the same conversation.

Edit prose with chat

The agent is most useful when you ask for targeted, well-scoped rewrites:

  • “Make the second paragraph more direct.”
  • “Add a sentence after the EBITDA discussion explaining why margins compressed.”
  • “Rewrite the risks section to match the tone of the rest of the memo.”

For longer documents, point the agent at a specific section by quoting a sentence or heading. The agent will scope its edit to that location instead of rewriting the whole document.

Format the document

Compound treats Word formatting as first-class. You can ask the agent to:

  • Apply heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.).
  • Build a table from data in chat or from a linked workbook.
  • Add a bulleted or numbered list.
  • Insert page breaks, headers, and footers.

If you have a house style, paste a short example as context in the chat — the agent will mimic it.

Versions

Every edit creates a new version, so nothing the agent does is destructive — you can always roll back. Canvas View, a full-width editor, opens alongside the chat when the agent works on a document; if you’ve closed it, click the file card in the chat to reopen. From Canvas View, click Versions to see every saved state, preview any prior version, and use Save this version as the latest to restore one.

Export

Open the document and download it as .docx. Tables, headings, and styles are preserved; comments and tracked changes are exported with the file.
